Event to Share Insights of Two-Year Bone Health Education Study Directly with Hundreds of Participants
Rochester, NY – January 12, 2021 – Over the last two years in collaboration with Amgen, GRYT (“grit”) Health, a digital oncology company that empowers people to be in charge of their own health, has conducted the Bone Health Education Needs Assessment (BEACON) Study with more than 250 cancer patients at high risk for cancer-related bone complications.
Participants in the research, as well as the industry as a whole, are invited to a free, virtual event on January 14, 2021, at 7 pm ET, that will not only share findings and background from the research from the researchers themselves, but thank and inform participants about how the information they shared during the study is being used, specifically to improve bone health education for future patients.
“The research conducted as part of the BEACON Study will undoubtedly have an impact on the future of bone health education, but the real difference we are making is informing and engaging the patients directly,” said Darcy Flora, Ph.D., chief research officer at GRYT Health and a presenter in Thursday’s event. “This study provided an invaluable opportunity for patients and survivors to share their experiences, be heard and to learn how they are improving the future standard of care.”
The goals of the BEACON Study were to understand current awareness of cancer-related bone health complications and to identify opportunities to improve bone health education for cancer patients at high risk for bone complications. More than 250 patients with breast, lung and prostate cancer with bone metastasis and those with multiple myeloma participated in the study over a two-year period. Results of the study will provide a foundation for future and meaningful discussions with patients, clinicians, and researchers regarding enhanced awareness of ongoing medical need to ensure optimum bone health for all patients.
Joining Darcy Flora, Ph.D. on the panel are Ben Cadieux, Ph.D., global medical affairs lead and Kim Lowe, Ph.D., senior manager, both from Amgen. The Bone Health Education Study: Researchers Share Results event on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 7 pm ET is free and virtual, but registrations are required. In addition to the BEACON Study, GRYT Health conducts a variety of patient experience research projects with trusted partners. Through The GRYT Project, patients, survivors and caregivers can opt-in to receive notice of research relevant opportunities, and in this way, use their voice to advance science. Participants in research projects are always kept informed of how their data will be shared, who is sponsoring the project and outcomes of the research.
